Producing Driving Directions in the Web Maps Connector
The new routing engine in the Web Maps Connector™ (“WMC”) allows a user to quickly create a set of directions between any 2 or more points in a Smallworld application. This provides functionality just like what is used on Bing Maps or Google Maps for routing right in Smallworld. Once the WMC is installed, you can access the Routing module from its toolbar. You can enter points using the trail or selected objects and it supports multiple points and even round trip directions!
You can access driving directions functionality in many countries around the world. The full details of supported countries for routing with WMC and Bing Maps is here.
In the screenshot you can see the highlighted route and the Route Finder dialog. The dialog lists each step in your route and allows you to easily navigate to that step on the map. The right-click context menu also provides direct access to Bird’s Eye and Streetside views (where available – this imagery dataset is expanding rapidly in 2010!) of each intersection!
